Solo Backpacking in Europe: Athens – Ancient and Modern

I didn’t expect that Aegean serves lunch. It’s not even a long flight…but still Thank you for the food ?
After 3 hours flight from Amsterdam to Athens..here I am, Greece!!!

OK, no queue for immigration, since I just have my backpack, I went all the way to exit, to find the Express bus to the city, ticket cost €6 for an hour ride.

The weather is much nicer in Greece, from 3 degrees in Amsterdam, to 19 degrees in Athens ?. And I’m sweating when I finally found the bus, LOL. It’s not even that far ?

You need to validate your ticket inside the bus ?

Athens
Validate your ticket on that orange box ?

OK, well I think the walk from the bus stop to hostel will kill my back..I can already feel it. Good thing, there are 2 other passengers, who were also looking for Athens backpackers..I think its 15 minutes walk…I can already see the stone arc, Oh my, I’m really in Athens ?

But we haven’t found our hostel, and I’m having a serious backache already! haha
after sometime, Finally! we found it, I arrived at the hostel passed 6pm, so I just prepared my things, took a shower, and that’s it, rest early, wake up early 😀
But of course, I need to charge my camera batteries and cellphone ?

Here’s my review on Athens Backpackers hostel

Wakey! Wakey!, it’s 7:00am, and I plan to visit the Pantheon stadium early, so I can go to acropolis before lunch.

My roommate, asked me if I’m joining the marathon? hmm, I told her, no…then I wonder, is there a marathon? that would be good right, at least there will be fewer people on the attractions..?

And I was wrong again, the thing is, the annual marathon is being held in Pantheon Stadium.. I have no idea, until I found the place, haha
I thought they were pointing me at the wrong one, ’cause I don’t have plans on joining the marathon ?

Anyway, I still need to see the Pantheon, the good thing is, the entrance is free. But well, as you can see, there’s a marathon in the background.

So I just take my time, taking pictures, while they are still preparing. So by the time the marathon starts, I’m also done ?

The walk to Pantheon from the hostel took like 20 minutes. I went back to hostel, to have a breakfast, before going to acropolis. The breakfast is also included in the hostel.

OK, so time to go to Acropolis.
The good thing in Athens backpackers, everything is walking distance, well except for the airport.

To Acropolis, its like 2 minutes walk..but you still need to walk for 10-15 minutes, for the entrance to the Acropolis.

There are two options, the north and south slope, which consists of Acropolis and theater of Odeon of Herodes Atticus for €20 and the multi slope, which consists all of the sites for €30.

I’m just interested on Acropolis and theater of Odiseus, so I bought the north and south slope.

And OMG, the view ? I can’t express my feelings, this is just a part of my curriculum way back in high school, and now I can see it in my own eyes, wow..it’s so amazing! ?

And because I’m busy taking photo of myself and the view, suddenly, I just noticed that my camera bag was gone…oh no, my goodness, every time I moved from country to another country, I lost something (well almost)

so, of course, I still continue taking photo of myself, cause I can’t find the bag 🙁 I told myself, I will just take a photo of Odeon of Herodes Atticus theater, then will look for it.

The view is so amazing… (did I already said that?)

OK, so time to find my camera bag. I look back and forth to Acropolis again. From entrance to acropolis, then back again…I almost gave up, I even talk to myself (and to camera bag) to show up..and after 15 minutes of looking around. I saw it!!!! Someone put it on one of the poles in Acropolis (sigh), I was so relieved..

Since I found the camera bag, I look around once again before I leave.

And now I want snacks..and craving for some bread, haha

I still have extra time before my flight, so I just walk around the place and watched some street dancers along the Plaka..then rest for an hour in hostel.

Its time for me to leave. OK here it goes, long walk with my backpack ?.
When I arrived at the Bus Stop…hmm, that’s weird, because the cashier is closed..I asked someone, if the person (in the cashier) is on break? or something..then he told me that it will not be open until 5:00 pm because there’s a marathon..Oh OK..so how will I go to airport then? ?..I asked him how, then he told me to just go to metro subway the worst thing, well I need to walk again, seriously, I’m having a back ache here, LOL

The fare is €10 to airport, since there’s an event, so there’s a lot of people on the subway, oh and be aware cause there’s a different train that will be on the same railway.good thing I saw it before I ride the subway, or else I’m doomed, LOL

The ride from the city to airport, took 45 minutes (sleepy).
And here I am, waiting for my flight to Santorini ?
