Solo Backpacking in Europe: Must see in Barcelona

This is my last part of my Europe trip..Barcelona.

From airport, there will be a bus to the Placa de Catalunya, the cost is €6. €5.90 to be exact.

It was a long walk from the airport to the airport bus, or I’m not just sure if the airport is that big.

The ride will just take 15-20 mins.
From the Placa de Catalunya, St.Christopher’s hostel is just across the Plaza, which is very accessible to La Rambla and to the airport bus 🙂

I arrived 10:30 pm at the hostel, so the only thing I did, is shower and store my things in the locker, and rest ?

Again, I woke at 7:30 am, and prepare.
By 8:00 am, the breakfast is already ready ?
I bought the day pass for €9 at the subway station. Which is valid to all transportations ?

The weather is not so good, it will be cloudy all day long, and will rain by 5:00 or 6:00 pm. Even though, I still need to start my itinerary, right? ?

First stop, of course, the La Sagrada Familia.
I was lucky there’s just few people, so I was able to take my selfie shot and photo of it ? But after 10 minutes, the tourist groups came..good timing, I’m done ?

The ticket counter for La Sagrada Familia, is at the back, so you need to walk around just to buy the ticket, and go back again at the front for the entrance.
The ticket cost, €18.

And here it is ?

And there’s also an undergorund museum or basement.

When I’m done absorbing the beauty of La Sagrada Familia. It’s time to go to Casa Mila.

I’m not really into art, but I’m just curious on the architecture of Gaudi ?
Ticket cost €20

Since, I read that there’s not much to see in Casa Ballo, I decided not to go inside.Casa Ballo

And just went to Park Guell instead.
Ticket cost, €7 or €8.

The walk from bus stop to Park Guell is like 15 minutes, uphill, I tell you its uphill, there’s an escalator at the end though ?

After that, I decided to go to the Fountain. (But it looks like the fountain will start by sunset,?)

I can feel the raindrops, and I think it will rain soon. So I went to La Rambla just to buy chocolates (milka chocolates of course!)?.

La Rambla

I just put all the things I bought at the hostel before going out again, unfortunately, it rained so hard, so I just ate dinner at McDonalds. Salad and burger and fries (what a combination) ?

I plan to visit the La Sagrada at night, so even it is raining, I tried to go to the subway, but epic fail, because it’s like there’s a storm in the city, OMG..

I wait at the mall and let the rain stop for a bit. Well of course, after some time, I still tried to go to La Sagrada, and epic fail again, because there’s no light around the church, so I went back and rest at the hostel.

My flight to Amsterdam, is at 10:00 am. I ate breakfast at the hostel, and around 8:30am went to the airport bus..I did make it on time..but unexpected happened when I was in the waiting area ?

  1. I completely agree! The architecture in Barcelona is incredible! I went when I was younger and did a lot of exploring! I love this post, it makes me want to go back aha

  2. That stonework is breathtakingly complex and beautiful! I’ve see pictures from a distance but I never realised it was quite that intricate close up.

  3. I love Barcelona ! I loved going to La Sagrada Familia, we went up to the top of the garden tower and walked down, it was so interesting. The Casa Mila was under repair on the outside when we went but so neat to look at the inside. I love the model apartment that is inside, it is all set up like it would have been when it opened. Park Guell was too full that we weren’t allowed in that day and we didn’t have time to go back. It looks like you had a great time there..

  4. It’s beautiful in Barcelona and I can imagine myself having the time of my life there! I’ve always wanted to go and visit and experience the culture, the good food, and see the beautiful architecture!

  5. Barcelona really does look amazing. The church La Sagrada Familia is pretty darn amazing as a Church. I love all ornate architecture and design there. It’s so beautiful.

  6. How beautiful and exciting! I have always to wanted to visit Barcelona, but your post makes me want to travel there even more someday. 🙂

  7. I did Barcelona a few years back and loved it. I’ve returned a few times as well. I stayed at the Saint Jordi hostel the last time I went. I need to get back there sometime soon.

  8. Wow! The architecture is so detailed. I also love how charming the city looks, your pictures really gave us a glimpse into the beauty of Barcelona.

  9. I have always wanted to visit Barcelona. I love how detailed and personal your experience of the city is. Like how you describe the feeling of the rain, or your decision-making process on whether to visit or skip certain attractions.

  10. Barcelona has some of the amazing architectural sites…that underground museum is fab! I loved all the pics you’ve shared and now, I feel like planning a Euro trip right now 🙂

  12. We’ve visited Antoni Gaudi’s fabulous La Sagrada Familia three times over the years and and each time we’ve been in total awe!

The detail in this cathedral is mind blowing… from a distance, it looks very Gothic in nature but then you get closer and every single element leaves your jaw hanging. From the lighting, the tree-like columns, the sculpture… It’s safe to say we have witnessed a work of art in the making!

Ironically, the most visited building in Barcelona had been building without a legal permit from the municipality. Only recently permission has been given to Sagrada Família, in April 2019, after 134 years of construction working.

    1. Wow good thing I was able to visit it without permit. And yeah, it’s really beautiful and detailed. ☺️
