Visit London, Stonehenge and Edinburgh on a budget

How we spent less than $1000 on our London, Stonehenge and Edinburgh trip? I’m a thrifty traveler, so as much as possible I would like to travel and not spend too much. Here’s how we Visit London, Stonehenge and Edinburgh on a budget.

Tips

  • We booked our flight kinda late so instead of getting less than $500, we got ours $569.93. So if you’re sure of the travel dates better booked it early.
  • If you can, stay in hostels. Well, this is more applicable to solo backpacker, friends etc. I would not recommend it if you have toddler/baby as it might not the right one for you. But still, there are some hostels that offer private room, it’s much less compare to hotel
  • We also searched for hostels with breakfast included. And that is close to subway or tourist spots.
  • For transportation in London, we choose between Travel card and Oyster card. But Oyster card has its capping. Meaning, once you’ve reached the capping limit for a certain zone, all your succeeding rides will be free.
  • Food, we ate what we can and want. There’s a lot of cheap snacks too in London. I love M&S Food Hall, as they have everything. And sometimes sandwiches drops their prices if it’s almost closing time.
  • We looked for tours on Stonehenge as we don’t want to rent a car and go by ourselves. But this is OK too. So for the tour, luckily we spotted a deal from Groupon. It’s a discounted price, and we had an additional discount from registering to the Groupon UK.
  • Going to Edinburgh form London, we chose coach bus. You can take train or plane. Cheapest will be bus, and we took an overnight bus to save us accommodation for 2 nights.
  • In Edinburgh, we didn’t buy any transportation card, as all the tourist spots can be reach by foot. Just be ready and wear comfortable shoes.
We also have our own tumbler, we refill them if we found one or just where we eat ?

  1. As someone who had traveled to the UK several times before moving here, this is very impressive! I love budget traveling, and am a firm believer in not needing to spend a fortune to travel/have a good time!

  2. There was so much history packed into your trip. I’m sure the entire experience was fascinating for you. Which part held your attention the most?

  3. It’s been years since I’ve been to London, and I’ve never seen Stonehenge. I would absolutely adore the chance to explore them, and knowing it won’t break the bank is helpful.
