Grindelwald First – A half day trip

Our flight to Zurich was around 7am from Berlin, we chose an early flight so we can have half day in Grindelwald, since we’re gonna stay 1 night in Iseltwald.

When we arrived in Zurich airport, we have to buy our transportation card for 3 days. We went to their information center, even though we searched already online, but just to double check. Here’s the info for the swiss pass travel. Once we have our ticket, we also asked the platform number going to Interlaken OST.

We arrived in Interlaken OST after 2hrs, and we have to ride a bus to go to our lodge in Iseltwald. The bus took 30mins one way. Our lodge is 5 min walk from the Bus stop or from the Pier. Lake Lodge Iseltwald is where we are staying for the night. Note that, there’s a time when the reception is open. We weren’t able to pay for our room that day, but they left our key in the reception. And they left a note to pay the next morning before checking out.

After we dropped our luggages, we checked the pier just to see that there’s people already lined up to take a picture of the lake. Anyway, we just took some while waiting for the bus, and the bus can be full, good thing we were able to get in and then we’re off to Interlaken OST station then train to Grindelwald. I think it took us 30mins.

Once you’re in Grindelwald, you will have to ride a bus which is #…. But you can also walk, the Grindelwald First is not that far. Probably like 5-10mins walk. It’s a short uphill to the Grindelwald First, where you will buy the tickets for the cable car. We made a mistake since there’s no English translation. We keep asking where’s the First Grindelwald, where we were at that time, but we don’t know where to buy tickets, and we can only see the activities price. We saw a booth, where you can buy the ticket, but the location of it is not a good spot especially in the afternoon cause there’s a glare and you can’t see the screen of what it says, we don’t even know if there was a translation. Until we figured it out that the counters were also for the cable cars and not only for the activities 😐 Anyway don’t forget to use your swiss pass travel if you have, to get a discount.

Once you have the ticket, you can just go and ride the cable car. Scan your ticket, and that’s it. There’s I think 5 stops. We just alight to the last stop. We would’ve alight in 3rd stop, but there’s so much people and on our way back, we didn’t too cause we were trying to catch the train, well the last bus at least to Iseltwald. The only regret is we didn’t go to the 3rd stop. Oh well I can just visit again next time.

So anyway, here it is the last stop. Be prepared cause it was kind of cold. Probably not in summer.

There’s still some ice/snow at the top and definitely cooler and windy. The view is astounding, I can’t stop taking pictures of the mountains.

And of course, we need to take a solo pic at cliff walk even if the line is long. LOL

We didn’t have enough time and I think they’re closing time is around 5pm, so we went down and look for souvenirs, and we have to catch the train.

They closed the road, honestly I don’t what was happening, so there’s no bus, and we have to walk to the station, good thing it’s not that far. Well, we thought the train will not be there yet, and decided to go to the nearest convenient store, but of course, we missed the train. We’re just hoping we won’t missed the bus going to the Iseltwald. We didn’t missed the bus, but we were running and the bus was full, since it’s the last bus, and not sure how much is the taxi from Interlaken to Iseltwald if ever we missed it, and I don’t want to know, LOL.

My friend saw a faint northern lights that night.
